Fuel Price Surge Shocks Nation as Government Announces Subsidy Relief

The government announced a major fuel price surge that shocked the nation and raised concerns among citizens. Authorities increased petrol and diesel prices sharply after a high-level meeting. As a result, petrol now costs 458.41 rupees per liter, while diesel has reached 520.35 rupees per liter.

Meanwhile, officials said the new prices will take effect from midnight after a formal notification was issued. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb shared the decision during a joint press conference. They explained that petrol prices rose by 137.24 rupees per liter, while diesel prices increased by 184.49 rupees per liter.

However, the government also introduced targeted subsidies to reduce the burden on low-income groups. The finance minister stated that motorcycle users will receive a subsidy of 100 rupees per liter on up to 20 liters monthly. In addition, public transport will get diesel subsidies, and goods transport will receive monthly financial support to manage rising fuel costs.

Furthermore, officials linked the fuel price surge to global oil market pressures and regional instability. They noted that crude oil prices have risen sharply worldwide, with diesel crossing 250 dollars per barrel. In conclusion, the government said the fuel price surge was unavoidable due to international commitments, while subsidies aim to ease public hardship.
