Xiaomi’s Wide Foldable Phone Finally Shows Up In The Wild

Xiaomi Mix Fold 5

Xiaomi’s next foldable just broke cover. Live images allegedly show the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, the company’s first true wide foldable. Therefore, the leak confirms what rumors have suggested for months—Xiaomi is finally copying Samsung’s approach with a wider display.

The leaked phone appears to be an engineering unit running HyperOS 4 based on Android 17. The software version starts with 4.0, matching Xiaomi’s typical major update naming pattern. Additionally, the device carries the codename “lhasa,” previously linked to Xiaomi’s foldable project. Meanwhile, some reports suggest this could also arrive as the Mix Fold 6 instead.

Design represents the biggest change here. Xiaomi is moving toward a wider, more compact form factor. This marks a clear shift from the taller designs used on earlier Mix Fold models. The foldable display will reportedly measure between 7.5 and 7.6 inches. Furthermore, Xiaomi apparently improved crease handling significantly.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 has received Chinese certification already. Therefore, launch timing appears closer than distant. Several reports claim the phone could debut as early as August 2026. However, the Xiaomi 18 series will wait for Qualcomm’s next flagship chip. Meanwhile, the Mix Fold 5 uses Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 processor.

Camera specs hint at flagship ambitions. The primary sensor could reach 200MP. Additionally, a horizontal Leica-branded camera module may accompany it. Meanwhile, other rumored features include a 6,000mAh battery, wireless charging, complete water resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Pricing estimates suggest around $1,475 in China. This positions the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 competitively against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Still, the in-house processor choice differentiates the approach tactically.

Nothing is confirmed by Xiaomi officially. The company has not announced the name, launch date, price, chipset, camera setup, battery capacity, or software. Therefore, treat all leaked details as speculation pending official confirmation. Finally, an August announcement would make sense given typical Chinese tech industry timing patterns.
