Tasks that once took weeks—such as accounting, filmmaking, and document formatting—now take minutes. As Kai-Fu Lee famously stated, AI will not necessarily replace jobs, but it will fundamentally change the nature of work.
The risk of AI becoming a “destructive monster” depends largely on governance and ethical oversight. If left unchecked, human society might unintentionally lose control over critical infrastructure in banking, healthcare, and governance. To mitigate these harms, experts like Google’s James Manyika emphasize the need for massive occupational shifts and robust worker retraining.
