Quetta To Peshawar Bus Crash Kills 40 Near Balochistan Border

Quetta to Peshawar bus crash

A devastating accident has claimed numerous lives on a major transport route in Pakistan. At least 40 people died and eight others sustained injuries after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine near the Balochistan-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border on Friday. The Quetta to Peshawar bus crash occurred shortly after the vehicle left the Dhanasar area of Sherani district and crossed into Dera Ismail Khan.

Balochistan Chief Minister’s aide for media and political affairs Shahid Rind issued a statement confirming initial reports. At least 40 fatalities and eight injuries resulted from the crash. Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti immediately ordered rescue operations upon receiving information about the accident. District administrations from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa worked together with rescue teams. Additionally, other relevant departments assisted victims at the scene. Authorities ordered an investigation to determine what caused the tragedy.

Sherani Deputy Commissioner Wali Khan Kakar said the bus departed Quetta with 36 passengers. However, additional passengers boarded after another bus broke down along the route. Therefore, the Quetta Peshawar bus crash involved more people than initially expected. Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported that the bus carried 48 passengers when it fell into the ravine. So discrepancies exist regarding the exact number of passengers affected.

Rescue teams from Zhob emergency services and Rescue 1122 responded to the incident soon after receiving initial reports. Teams shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Zhob for immediate treatment. Meanwhile, rescue workers initially transported the bodies to a nearby rural health center. Subsequently, officials transferred them to the same hospital in Zhob for formal procedures.

The tragedy represents one of the deadliest road accidents in recent months. Poor road conditions, mechanical failures, and driver error remain common causes of major crashes in Pakistan. Authorities must investigate thoroughly to determine the specific circumstances leading to this catastrophe. Moreover, recommendations from the investigation should inform safety improvements on similar routes.

Such accidents highlight persistent challenges in Pakistan’s transportation safety infrastructure. Many routes lack adequate barriers and safety measures. Additionally, vehicle maintenance standards require stricter enforcement. So comprehensive reforms are needed to prevent similar tragedies. Finally, families of the deceased and injured deserve answers and support during this difficult time.
