PTA Inspections Leave Operators Racing to Fix Coverage, Calls, Internet

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has told mobile operators to fix coverage, voice-call and internet problems found during a week of field monitoring. The regulator said in a statement on Friday, October 16, 2026, that its 10 zonal offices carried out monitoring and service-improvement work between October 8 and 14.

Teams visited Thatta, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mandi Bahauddin, Quetta, Faisalabad and Gilgit-Baltistan to assess telecom services and look into problems consumers face. Operators must resolve the issues identified within set timeframes, PTA said. It also said an issue involving the closure of a telecom site in Faisalabad has been resolved.

The statement leaves out the details a subscriber would want: which operators were told to act, what faults were found, how many sites were checked, and when the deadlines fall.

The previous week’s update was more specific. PTA said its zonal teams inspected 115 telecom sites between September 30 and October 7, 2026, including 39 in Lahore, 17 in Karachi, eight in Quetta and three in Gilgit. Those inspections also checked backup power arrangements at sites. As this week, the operators concerned were directed to take corrective measures wherever deficiencies were found.

In September, reports said PTA had also directed operators to close coverage gaps in Islamabad and Rawalpindi by October 2026, and to add sites alongside the rollout of new 5G spectrum bands. Today’s statement does not say whether that deadline has been met.

If your own signal is the problem, PTA’s complaint process starts with the operator. Lodge the complaint with your telecom company and keep the reference number it gives you, along with the time you filed. If the operator misses its own resolution timeline or the answer is unsatisfactory, you can take it to PTA. PTA’s FAQ lists the unique complaint number from the operator, the time of filing and a short description of the problem as the information required. The helpline is 0800-55055, and complaints can also go through PTA’s online complaint portal or its mobile app.
