Pakistan Eid heatwave warning covers Sindh and Punjab as temperatures could soar 6°C above normal during the holiday week
This Eid will be a hot one — dangerously so. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a serious Pakistan Eid heatwave warning, alerting citizens to a sharp rise in temperatures across Sindh during the coming week. Temperatures in the province could climb up to 6°C above normal between May 25 and May 31. Moreover, several districts in inland Sindh may see the mercury touch 50°C during this period.
Meteorologists say most parts of interior Sindh will remain under extreme heat conditions throughout the week. The advisory specifically urges citizens, farmers, and elderly people to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Furthermore, outdoor workers and agricultural communities face particularly difficult conditions during what is already one of the most physically demanding religious occasions of the year. Therefore, the warning carries genuine urgency for millions of Pakistanis who will spend time outdoors during Eid ul Adha.
The situation in Punjab is different but still uncomfortable. Lahore continues to face intense heat, though a rain system remains active in the province. Dusty winds and light rain are expected in the city and surrounding areas. Strong winds may blow during the afternoon and evening hours. Additionally, the minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to stay around 27°C while the maximum could reach 40°C. Therefore, Punjab residents get some relief compared to Sindh, though the heat remains significant.
Eid ul Adha already demands a great deal from people physically. Sacrificial rituals, outdoor gatherings, and travel all intensify heat exposure. The PMD’s warning, therefore, is not one to take lightly. Finally, health authorities and citizens alike must take precautions — stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak hours, and check on vulnerable family members throughout the holiday period.
