Pakistan’s television industry faces an immediate crackdown. PEMRA has issued a cybersecurity directive requiring channels to submit detailed security roadmaps within three working days. Therefore, all measures must be completed by August 4.

The PEMRA cybersecurity directive mandates installation of Security Operations Centers and SIEM systems. Additionally, channels must appoint Chief Information Security Officers and schedule third-party audits.

The directive follows March 2026 cyberattacks targeting Geo News, ARY News, and Samaa TV. Attackers disrupted broadcasts and defaced websites. Moreover, these attacks prompted government action to prevent similar incidents.

PEMRA will hold an emergency meeting July 8 at its Islamabad headquarters to address satellite uplink interference. Television channels must send Chief Technical Officers and Chief Cyber Security Officers.

Compliance will require substantial investment in security infrastructure. However, broadcasters have no choice—non-compliance risks license revocation. Finally, this PEMRA cybersecurity directive signals government determination to protect critical media infrastructure.
