Pakistan PM Shehbaz And Munir Join Iran US Switzerland Talks

Iran US ceasefire talks

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir have arrived in Switzerland for high-level negotiations. Their visit aims to push forward a ceasefire framework between Iran and the United States, according to Al Jazeera.

Officials are holding the talks in Bürgenstock, where US Vice President JD Vance is also expected to attend. According to reports, Pakistan is mediating the discussions alongside Qatar, which is also expected to join. This puts Islamabad in an unusually prominent diplomatic position.

The negotiations focus on implementing an interim understanding. Specifically, the goal is ending the ongoing war and preventing further regional escalation. Therefore, the stakes at Bürgenstock extend well beyond a single meeting.

Iran’s delegation has already arrived in Switzerland as well. The delegation says its priority is full implementation of the emerging agreement to halt hostilities. Meanwhile, this signals that Tehran is approaching the talks with cautious but genuine engagement.

Diplomats are intensifying their efforts to secure a comprehensive end to the conflict. Multiple regional and global actors are reportedly coordinating behind the scenes. Additionally, this suggests the Bürgenstock talks are just one visible part of a much larger diplomatic push.

PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir’s presence underscores Pakistan’s growing mediating role between Washington and Tehran. However, neither side has confirmed a specific timeline for finalizing the ceasefire framework. Still, the fact that both Iran and the US sent senior representation to the same venue carries real weight on its own.

Qatar’s involvement also adds weight to the process. The Gulf state has played mediating roles in past regional conflicts, so its presence alongside Pakistan strengthens the diplomatic backing behind these Iran US ceasefire talks. Finally, all eyes will now turn to whether Bürgenstock produces a workable path toward de-escalation, or whether deeper disagreements still need resolving.
