Pakistan’s banking landscape just shifted in the northern territories. The Bank of Azad Jammu & Kashmir welcomed a BAJK new CEO this week. His appointment signals a new strategic direction for the state-owned institution.

Ayyaz comes from The Bank of Punjab where he served nearly 17 years in senior leadership. His tenure there included significant responsibilities in corporate and investment banking restructuring. Additionally, he established and strengthened SME and commercial banking operations. Furthermore, his expertise spans corporate banking, commercial banking, Islamic banking, and SME finance comprehensively.

His educational credentials strengthen his leadership profile substantially. Ayyaz graduated with an Executive MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences. Additionally, he earned distinction and received placement on the Dean’s Honour Roll. Therefore, his academic background combines with extensive practical experience.

Chief Secretary Azazd Government and BAJK Chairman Khushkal Khan praised the appointment. “I congratulate the BAJK team on having a professional banker with extensive experience in priority sector lending,” he said. “We look forward to BAJK’s enhanced role in financial inclusion, SME empowerment and taking the bank to the next level. I also see this as an important first step in BAJK’s journey towards a nationwide commercial banking license.”

The BAJK new CEO outlined ambitious transformation goals immediately. “I am honoured to join the Bank of Azad Jammu & Kashmir at an important stage in its journey of growth and transformation,” Ayyaz said. “BAJK has earned a distinguished reputation as the premier state-owned financial institution of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, built on the trust of its customers and the dedication of its people.”

Ayyaz emphasized multiple strategic priorities moving forward. “Together with the Board of Directors, management, employees, and all our stakeholders, we will work to further strengthen the Bank’s financial performance, accelerate digital transformation, expand Islamic and SME banking, enhance customer experience, reinforce governance and risk management practices, and promote greater financial inclusion across the region.”

His vision emphasizes innovation and sustainable growth. “Our focus will remain on innovation, operational excellence, sustainable growth, and creating lasting value for our customers, communities, and the economy of Azad Jammu & Kashmir,” he concluded.

The appointment reflects BAJK’s ambitions beyond regional banking. Commercial licensing represents a significant expansion goal. Ayyaz’s experience in scaling banking operations positions him well for this challenge. Finally, the BAJK new CEO appointment signals transformational change ahead for the institution.
