Petrol diesel price decrease of Rs. 22.22 per litre announced on Eid’s third day as the government delivers on its public relief commitment

Pakistan’s fuel prices just took their biggest drop in recent memory. The federal government announced a reduction of Rs. 22.22 per litre on both petrol and high-speed diesel on the third day of Eid. The petrol diesel price decrease brings petrol down from Rs. 403.78 to Rs. 381.56 per litre. Furthermore, diesel falls from Rs. 402.78 to Rs. 380.56 per litre. The Prime Minister’s Office made the announcement and described public relief as one of its top priorities.

The timing carries symbolic weight. The government had publicly promised to pass on relief as soon as fiscal space became available. Moreover, delivering the cut on Eid sends a deliberate message to citizens already celebrating the holiday. The PMO confirmed that the reduction fulfils that specific commitment. The government also pointed to its conduct during the global oil crisis. When international prices surged sharply, authorities absorbed significant subsidy costs to shield domestic consumers. The PMO said that intervention provided relief worth over Rs. 130 per litre at various points. Therefore, the latest cut sits within a broader pattern of government action on fuel pricing.

Lower fuel costs reduce transportation expenses directly. That, in turn, eases pressure on the prices of essential goods and services across the economy. Finally, for millions of Pakistanis already stretched by inflation, a Rs. 22 drop at the pump is welcome news — no matter what day it lands on.
