Google has announced the Fitbit Air, a new screenless fitness tracker designed for Android and iOS users. The device arrives alongside the new Google Health app that will replace the Fitbit app after 15 years. Consequently, Google unveils screenless Fitbit Air as an alternative to subscription based devices like the Whoop band. Unlike some competitors, the Fitbit Air does not require a monthly subscription to function at its core level.

Design and Tracking Features

The Fitbit Air comes in three versions. These include the Performance Loop Band, the sweat resistant Active Band, and the Elevated Modern Band for fashion focused users. The tracker includes continuous heart rate monitoring with alerts, heart rhythm tracking with Afib notifications, SpO2 monitoring, resting heart rate tracking, heart rate variability monitoring, and sleep tracking features. Google said the Fitbit Air can automatically detect and track common activities while improving personalization over time.

The device also tracks weekly cardio targets, readiness, distance, and steps. Sleep related features include sleep stage tracking, breathing regularity monitoring, sleep scores, sleep summaries, and a Smart Wake alarm. The Fitbit Air supports swappable bands and works with both Android and iOS devices. Google unveils screenless Fitbit Air with Pixel Watch compatibility as well. Owners can sync their smartwatch with the Fitbit Air through the Google Health app.

Google Health and Gemini Features

The updated Google Health app now runs on Gemini AI. The app introduces a new Google Health Coach feature designed to provide AI based health and fitness guidance. Google Health Coach can create personalized fitness plans based on user routines and goals. It can adapt plans using real time activity data and provide insights into exercise, sleep, and wellness habits. The free Google Health tier includes activity, sleep, and wellness tracking. The Premium tier adds Ask Coach, Adaptive Fitness Plans, Detailed Sleep Insights, and more.

Battery and Pricing

Google claims the Fitbit Air delivers up to one week of battery life. Fast charging provides one day of usage in just five minutes. The Fitbit Air costs 99.99 dollars and includes a three month trial of Google Health Premium. Replacement bands start at 34.99 dollars. Therefore, Google unveils screenless Fitbit Air at an accessible price point for most fitness enthusiasts. A Stephen Curry special edition will launch on May 26 for 129.99 dollars.
