The Google Googlebook laptop brings Gemini AI, Android apps, and ChromeOS together in one bold new device
Google has announced something entirely new. The company unveiled Googlebook, a fresh laptop category built from the ground up around Gemini AI. It merges Android’s rich app ecosystem with ChromeOS features to deliver a device focused on AI-powered assistance, seamless cross-device experiences, and premium hardware. Google has shared an early preview and plans to reveal further details later this year. The Google Googlebook laptop, therefore, marks one of the most significant shifts in the company’s hardware strategy in years.

Gemini Focused Experience
Googlebook is the first laptop category designed entirely around Gemini Intelligence. One standout feature is Magic Pointer, developed in collaboration with the Google DeepMind team. It activates Gemini-powered suggestions directly through the laptop cursor. Users can point at a date in an email to instantly create a meeting. They can also select an image to generate visual previews, such as placing furniture inside a room design. Moreover, the feature significantly cuts down the number of steps needed to complete everyday tasks.
Custom Widgets and AI Tools
Google is also introducing Create Your Widget on Googlebook devices. This tool lets users build custom desktop widgets using simple prompts. Gemini can search the internet or connect with Google services like Gmail and Calendar to assemble personalized dashboards. For example, a user planning a family reunion in Berlin could organize flights, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, and countdowns all within a single widget. It is, therefore, a genuinely practical use of AI rather than a gimmick.
Android Integration
Googlebook runs partially on the Android technology stack. Google says this will allow faster feature rollouts across devices. Cross-device functionality is also a core part of the experience. Users can open phone apps directly from their laptop without fully switching devices. Tasks like ordering food or responding to app reminders can be completed straight from the laptop workflow. Additionally, a Quick Access feature lets users view, search, and insert files stored on their phone directly into the laptop’s file browser, with no manual transfers needed.
Hardware Partners
Google is working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to build the first Googlebook laptops. All devices will use premium materials and come in multiple designs and sizes. They will also feature a distinctive glowbar design element to identify Googlebook hardware at a glance. However, a market release date has not yet been confirmed. Still, with major hardware partners already on board, the wait may not be too long.
