A drone strike near Dubai International Airport (DXB) triggered a fire on Monday, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, and emergency teams quickly brought the blaze under control.
According to authorities, the drone hit one of the airport’s fuel tanks, causing a fire at the facility. The Dubai Media Office shared details of the incident in an official statement on X, confirming that emergency crews responded immediately to contain the situation.
Following the attack, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority suspended flights to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff. Several flights were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), located about 20 miles from the main airport.
Police also temporarily closed roads and tunnels leading to the airport area as a precaution. Authorities have not yet confirmed when full flight operations at Dubai International Airport will resume, emphasizing that traveller safety remains the top priority.
Meanwhile, Emirates announced a temporary suspension of all flights to and from Dubai. Passengers were advised not to travel to the airport and instead check with their airlines for updated travel information.
This incident marks the third drone-related event near Dubai’s main airport since tensions escalated following regional attacks linked to the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict. Earlier incidents on March 11 and before had already caused damage to airport facilities.
The broader conflict has significantly disrupted global aviation, with missile and drone attacks forcing airlines to reroute flights and avoid parts of Middle East airspace. On the same day, Saudi Arabia reported intercepting around 34 drones entering its eastern region, highlighting the growing security concerns across the Gulf.
