Bangladesh whitewash Pakistan Tests 2-0 as Taijul Islam’s six-wicket haul seals a famous victory in Sylhet

Bangladesh have written another painful chapter in Pakistan’s recent Test history. The Tigers defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second and final Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, completing a 2-0 series whitewash. Moreover, it marks Bangladesh’s first ever Test series whitewash at home — a historic milestone achieved entirely at Pakistan’s expense. However, Taijul broke the stand by dismissing Sajid for 28. Shoriful then removed a battling Rizwan for 94 off 166 balls, ending Pakistan’s best hope of survival. Earlier in the chase, Pakistan slipped to 41-2 after losing Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal cheaply. Babar Azam and Shan Masood steadied the innings and guided Pakistan past 100. Nevertheless, Bangladesh struck back in the second session. Nahid Rana and Taijul removed Babar for 47, Saud Shakeel for six, and Shan for a composed 71. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha then revived hopes with a 134-run sixth-wicket stand. Taijul, however, had the final say by removing Salman for 71.

Bangladesh’s first innings total of 278 was built on Litton Das’s brilliant 126. Their second innings of 390, anchored by Mushfiqur Rahim’s superb 137, put the match beyond Pakistan’s reach. Khurram Shahzad impressed throughout with four wickets in each innings. Still, Pakistan’s batting collectively failed when it mattered most.

Finally, for Shan Masood, the series defeat deepens an already difficult captaincy record. Pakistan have now lost three consecutive Tests to Bangladesh. The questions about this team’s direction in Test cricket are growing louder and will not go away anytime soon.
