The Islamabad Muharram security plan brings drone surveillance, a dedicated mobile app, and over 15,000 personnel to the federal capital
Islamabad is deploying advanced technology to keep Muharram processions safe this year. Authorities will monitor religious gatherings and processions through drones and digital surveillance as part of an extensive security plan for the holy month. The announcement followed a high-level meeting where Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reviewed security arrangements in the federal capital.
According to the Interior Ministry, teams have already completed geo-tagging of all imambargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes. Furthermore, authorities have set up a central control room at Safe City Islamabad to oversee operations throughout the holy month.
The ministry also launched a mobile application called Mehfooz Muharram. This app allows citizens to report suspicious activities, security concerns, and incidents directly. Additionally, it includes live location and image-sharing features that support real-time coordination between citizens and security personnel.
The Islamabad Muharram security plan includes a four-tier security cordon around all processions and religious gatherings. Naqvi directed authorities to conduct strict checks at entry and exit points. Moreover, he emphasized effective implementation of a comprehensive traffic management plan to minimize disruption across the city.
The minister stressed strict enforcement of the code of conduct. He called for a zero-tolerance policy against provocative material. Therefore, close coordination with religious scholars and event organizers remains central to the overall strategy.
Officials confirmed that teams have completed security audits of all processions and majalis. Additionally, authorities have activated Aman and Nigehban committees to support law and order efforts throughout the period.
The scale of deployment is substantial. More than 15,000 security personnel, including Islamabad Police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies, now cover the capital. The security plan will remain active from the first of Muharram until the nineteenth of Safar.
Authorities expect over 170 processions and approximately 930 majalis during this period. To strengthen surveillance, more than 3,000 CCTV cameras will monitor events in real time. Meanwhile, over 500 traffic police personnel will manage traffic flow and reduce congestion around major routes.
Security agencies have also intensified search and combing operations across Islamabad as a preventive measure. The Islamabad Muharram security plan reflects a comprehensive, technology-driven approach to ensuring public safety during one of the most significant periods on the religious calendar.
