The Sindh Police modernization plan brings artificial intelligence, drone surveillance, and cybercrime units into the provincial force
Sindh Police is getting a serious technological overhaul. Inspector General Javed Alam Odho has formed a high-level committee to modernize the provincial force. The move signals a significant shift in how Sindh intends to police its cities and towns.
Additional IG Establishment Training Iqbal Dara will head the committee. It includes senior officials such as DIGs of Establishment and West Zone. AIGs of State Management and Finance are also members. Additionally, representatives from East Zone Investigation will participate. The Establishment AIG will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The committee carries a broad mandate. It will review the integration of several modern policing tools. These include artificial intelligence systems, dedicated cybercrime units, and drone-based aerial surveillance. Special investigation and security forces also feature in the plan. Furthermore, professional media and strategic communication teams will be part of the overhaul. Together, these additions would bring Sindh Police significantly closer to global law enforcement standards.
The Sindh Police modernization plan also addresses staffing needs. Officials confirmed the committee will evaluate requirements for IT experts and other skilled professionals. Moreover, it will recommend a structured framework for recruiting and assigning officers to specialized roles.
The inclusion of cybercrime units is particularly timely. Digital crime has grown rapidly across Pakistan. Provincial police forces have historically lacked the capacity to respond effectively. Therefore, a dedicated cybercrime function within Sindh Police addresses a long-standing gap.
Drone-based aerial surveillance adds another important dimension. Meanwhile, AI integration could transform everything from traffic management to criminal investigation. Officers would gain data-driven tools that manual policing simply cannot match.
The committee’s recommendations will shape how Sindh Police recruits and deploys its personnel in the years ahead.
