Latest Chinese Battery is 80x Cheaper Than Lithium and Lasts 16 Years

Latest Chinese battery is 80 times cheaper

Chinese scientists have developed a new generation of low cost energy storage technology. The technology uses iron based chemistry that could reshape large scale renewable power systems. Consequently, the latest Chinese battery is 80 times cheaper than lithium and offers remarkable durability. Researchers at the Institute of Metal Research engineered an advanced all iron flow battery. It completed more than 6,000 charge discharge cycles. This equals over 16 years of daily grid operations.

The battery demonstrated a leak proof efficiency of 99.4 percent. It maintained an energy efficiency of 78.5 percent even under high output conditions. Therefore, the latest Chinese battery is 80 times cheaper while delivering reliable performance. A key breakthrough lies in the restructured negative electrolyte. Scientists designed multiple iron complexes and identified a highly stable compound. This reduces unwanted chemical reactions and prevents internal material crossover. Performance tests showed the battery operating steadily at high current density without degradation.

One of the most important advantages is cost. Iron is roughly 80 times cheaper than lithium. This makes iron based systems far more viable for mass deployment. Unlike lithium ion batteries, the iron based system uses a water based electrolyte. This curbs fire risks associated with flammable materials. The latest Chinese battery is 80 times cheaper and safer for grid scale storage. Iron’s global abundance offers improved supply security at a time when demand for battery materials is rapidly increasing.

Scientists estimate the system could operate for more than 16 years without significant performance decline. However, the technology remains in the development stage. Large scale commercial deployment will depend on further testing.
