Reddit Search Growth Shows AI Strategy Driving Strong Results

Reddit posted strong first-quarter results for 2026 as Reddit search growth highlighted the company’s expanding AI strategy. For years, users criticized Reddit’s search tool and called it difficult to use. However, the company invested heavily in improving the product and building new AI features. Those efforts now appear to be delivering measurable gains in user activity and engagement.

During the first quarter of 2026, weekly search users rose 30 percent from a year earlier. Chief Executive Officer Steve Huffman said search daily active users, weekly active users, and total search queries all increased meaningfully. He added that stronger search performance is helping retention and daily engagement. As a result, search has become a more important part of Reddit’s broader product strategy.

Moreover, Huffman pointed to Reddit Answers as a major example of that progress. The AI-powered feature gives users direct answers while connecting them to wider discussions across the platform. He said the search team has integrated the feature more deeply into Reddit’s core experience. Consequently, search is no longer seen only as a utility but as a growing engine for user activity.

Meanwhile, Reddit also began testing product placements inside its AI search results in the United States in February. That move shows the company now sees search as a possible source of revenue as well as retention. According to Huffman, about 40 percent of Reddit discussions are business-related. He also said 84 percent of consumers reported making better buying decisions after researching topics on the platform.

The company ended the quarter with more than 493 million weekly active unique users, up 23 percent from the same period last year. Daily active unique users reached about 126 million, a 17 percent increase. International markets continued to lead growth. International daily users climbed 26 percent to 73.3 million, while United States daily users rose 7 percent to 53.5 million.

In addition, Reddit said its machine translation system now supports more than 30 languages and continues to strengthen global expansion. The company said this effort, along with search improvements, will be central to its goal of reaching one billion daily active users worldwide and 100 million daily users in the United States. Finally, Reddit search growth also helped lift first-quarter revenue to $663 million, beating market expectations of $609.8 million.
