Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on EV adoption today. He directed authorities to accelerate ongoing efforts to promote electric vehicles across Pakistan. The government wants Pakistan to promote electric vehicles as a solution to the country’s fuel import burden. Faster EV adoption will lower fuel imports, protect the environment, and strengthen energy security. The prime minister called for urgent implementation of existing policies to ensure visible progress.

The prime minister also stressed the need for transparency in subsidies for electric motorcycles. Low-income groups will benefit from these schemes. Authorities must speed up the rollout to ensure wider access and timely benefits. Officials briefed the meeting on current initiatives aimed at expanding electric mobility. They confirmed that 72 manufacturing certificates have been issued for electric motorcycles and rickshaws. Four licenses have been granted for electric vehicle production. The government wants Pakistan to promote electric vehicles through multiple manufacturing channels.

Charging infrastructure will expand alongside vehicle production. Officials have received 123 applications for the establishment of EV charging stations across the country. Key federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting, reflecting the government’s intent to prioritize electric mobility. The prime minister emphasized that faster adoption will reduce the country’s reliance on imported petrol and diesel.

Consumers will see more EV options in the coming months. Manufacturers already hold the necessary certificates. Charging stations will follow. The shift from petrol engines has officially begun.
