FIA Seizes Rs 2 Billion in Hawala Bust Including Iranian Currency

FIA seizes Rs 2 billion

The Federal Investigation Agency conducted a major crackdown on financial crime. The FIA seizes Rs 2 billion from illegal hawala and hundi networks linked to Europe and Gulf countries. The operation also uncovered illegal hoarding of Iranian currency worth around Rs 210 million. Authorities took that currency into custody as well. The seizures included US dollars, Saudi riyals, UAE dirhams, and other foreign currencies. The FIA Peshawar Zone director confirmed the details of the bust.

The crackdown targeted multiple illegal activities simultaneously. The FIA seizes Rs 2 billion while also dismantling organ trafficking networks. Officials confirmed that the action forms part of a broader effort to dismantle organized financial crime operating across borders. Over the past 15 months, the agency conducted 549 raids and arrested 1,337 suspects in connection with these activities. Investigators also dismantled a group involved in illegal kidney transplants. They arrested four individuals, including a doctor.

The organ trafficking ring exploited vulnerable people. Authorities revealed that the group targeted brick kiln workers and low-income laborers from Punjab. They coerced these individuals into selling kidneys for as little as Rs. 100,000. The FIA seizes Rs 2 billion from the hawada networks, but the human cost of organ trafficking cannot be measured in money alone. The agency will continue operations targeting financial crime and human exploitation networks.

Strengthening enforcement remains a top priority. Preventing cross-border illegal transactions will require sustained effort. The FIA shows no signs of slowing down.
