Tragic Train Collision in Sindh: 1 Dead, 13 Injured

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, a serious railway accident occurred at Lakha Road station near Naushahro Feroze district in southern Sindh province, Pakistan. The Karachi-Lahore Shalimar Express passenger train collided with a stationary goods train, resulting in one fatality and 13 injuries.

Rescue 1122’s Urban Search and Rescue team quickly arrived at the scene, recovering the body of the deceased and providing immediate first aid to the 13 injured passengers. The injured received on-site treatment following the impact, which caused some coaches of the Shalimar Express to derail.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has taken swift action by ordering a high-level inquiry into the cause of the collision. He directed that a detailed report be submitted to the ministry within three days and emphasized that “those responsible should be punished as per the law.”

Train accidents remain a recurring concern in Pakistan, often linked to outdated railway infrastructure, aging signaling systems, and chronic underinvestment in maintenance and upgrades. This latest incident highlights the urgent need for safety improvements in the country’s rail network.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and the injured passengers as they recover. Authorities continue to investigate to prevent such tragedies in the future.
