The iPhone Duo has failed a popular durability test within days of going on sale on October 23, 2026. YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything found that sand jammed its hinge and that bending it backwards killed the touch on its inner screen, according to a MacRumors report.
Sand stops the hinge closing
The iPhone Duo has an IP68 rating, which means it is sealed against dust and water. Zack Nelson still covered it in sand and dirt. The grit got into the hinge, and the magnets could no longer pull the phone shut. It stayed slightly open.
Bend test leaves lines and kills touch
Zack Nelson then bent the open phone backwards, which is the hardest part of his test. A permanent green line appeared across the inner display. A second try added more lines, and the inner screen stopped responding to touch.
The outer screen did much better. It uses Ceramic Shield 2 glass and showed only faint marks at level 7 on the Mohs scale, a 1-to-10 scale of scratch hardness. The 7.6-inch inner screen scratched at level 2. Its matte coating hides most of those marks when the screen is on.
Zack Nelson also warned that replacing the inner screen costs around $1,000. At an exchange rate of Rs. 277 to the dollar, that is about Rs. 277,000.
What it means for buyers in Pakistan
Apple’s US price for the 256GB model is $1,999, making this its most expensive iPhone. Apple has not announced a Pakistan price. Price websites list estimates, such as Rs. 724,999 on PhoneBolee, but these are unofficial.
The bend test is extreme. Few owners will bend an open phone backwards, so the result does not show how the Duo will last in daily use. Dust in the hinge is a more realistic worry.
Apple has also not published hinge test numbers. MacRumors reports that Joanna Stern folded her review unit more than 32,000 times over four nights. Samsung says the display used in its Galaxy Z Fold7 passed a 500,000-fold test.
Early users are sharing clips of apps that do not fill the larger screen. One widely shared video shows a video app shrinking into a small window when the phone is unfolded, the report said.
