The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has announced significant improvements to its device management system. The DIRBS portal upgrade will enhance services for both the general public and commercial entities. According to the authority, the upgraded DIRBS has been developed in-house. Therefore, PTA leveraged internal expertise to design the system improvements.
The DIRBS portal upgrade is designed to simplify the device registration process for all users. The system upgrade represents part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to improve platform efficiency. Additionally, officials aim to enhance overall user experience. So the upgrade addresses multiple service delivery challenges simultaneously.
PTA said the enhanced system will provide a more streamlined and user-friendly device registration process. Both individuals and commercial entities will benefit from the improvements. Therefore, registration should become faster and more intuitive for all stakeholder groups.
As part of the upgrade, the DIRBS portal and all related services will remain temporarily unavailable. The maintenance window extends from 5:00 PM on July 3, 2026, until 4:00 AM on July 6, 2026. During this period, users and commercial entities will not be able to access the portal. Additionally, they cannot use any related services. Therefore, businesses and individuals should complete all necessary registrations before the maintenance window begins.
The three-day maintenance period represents significant downtime for an essential government service. Device registration is mandatory for all imported phones in Pakistan. Therefore, the timing may inconvenience users with urgent registration needs. However, PTA has provided advance notice allowing stakeholders to prepare accordingly.
PTA expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused by the scheduled maintenance. Officials thanked end users and commercial entities for their cooperation and understanding during the essential system upgradation. The authority also advised all stakeholders to plan their device registration activities accordingly. So users should complete registrations early before the DIRBS portal upgrade begins.
The DIRBS system tracks imported and domestically manufactured mobile devices in Pakistan. It helps prevent smuggling and counterfeit devices from entering the market. Therefore, system improvements benefit security and market integrity. Finally, the upgrade should make the registration process more accessible for legitimate device importers and users nationwide.
