PM House repair funds headline a busy ECC session that also cleared billions for health, skills, and food safety

The Economic Coordination Committee had a packed agenda on Tuesday. Among its decisions, the committee approved Rs. 160 million in PM House repair funds for the maintenance of the Prime Minister’s Office. The allocation is likely to draw attention at a time when public spending is under intense scrutiny. Moreover, it was just one of several significant financial decisions the ECC made during the session.

On a more substantive note, the committee approved Rs. 1 billion for the operationalization of the National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority. NAFSA aims to strengthen food safety and agricultural regulatory systems across the country. Furthermore, the approval signals a serious push to bring Pakistan’s agricultural trade framework up to international standards.

Development spending also featured prominently. The ECC cleared Rs. 3.915 billion for the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program through NAVTTC. Additionally, Rs. 1.5 billion went to the National Health Program, formerly known as the Sehat Sahulat Programme, to expand healthcare coverage for citizens across the country. Therefore, Tuesday’s session covered a wide range of priorities from infrastructure to human development.

Separately, the ECC also received an update on the education sector. School decoration and classroom beautification drives are gaining momentum across Pakistan. Students and teachers are actively participating in creating more engaging learning environments through charts, displays, and creative artwork. Still, for many observers, the Rs. 160 million set aside for the PM House will remain the headline figure from Tuesday’s meeting. Finally, the government will need to explain clearly why that particular repair bill carries such a hefty price tag.
