Apple will unveil iOS 27 on June 8 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The software update introduces a delayed, smarter version of Siri powered by Google’s Gemini technology. Additionally, Apple’s new AI photo editing tools are coming to the Photos app. Bloomberg first reported these details. The editing interface will include a new Apple Intelligence Tools section. This section features four tools: Extend, Enhance, Reframe, and Clean Up.

Extend allows users to generate additional image content around the original frame. Users control how much content they add by dragging the edges of the photo. Enhance uses AI to improve colors, lighting, and overall image quality automatically. Therefore, Apple’s new AI photo editing tools promise significant upgrades over current capabilities. Reframe works specifically for spatial photos. This is Apple’s 3D image format built for the Apple Vision Pro. Reframe lets users shift the viewing perspective after capturing a photo.

Clean Up already exists in the current Photos app. It remains Apple’s only AI-powered image editing tool at present. Clean Up allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos. The tool will continue as part of the app in iOS 27. However, Bloomberg reported that development has faced challenges during internal testing. Extend and Reframe have not performed reliably. Consequently, Apple’s new AI photo editing tools may face delays or reduced capabilities before launch.

Users have also complained about Clean Up. The report notes it can sometimes leave visual artifacts. It may also distort images or fill removed areas with inaccurate details. Apple has time to fix these issues before June 8. Nevertheless, the company may launch iOS 27 with fewer features than planned.
