Multan Sultans Set to Make PSL Comeback

Multan Sultans appear to be on the verge of returning to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), with a major franchise identity switch now in motion ahead of the 2026 season.

CD Ventures has formally asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to rename the newly established Sialkot Stallionz franchise as Multan Sultans, according to sources familiar with the matter.

According to sources, PCB is set to make the announcement soon, confirming the return of the Multan franchise.

The push follows a significant ownership shake-up around the Sialkot franchise. OZ Developers, initially awarded the team after the league’s expansion process, reportedly ran into financial trouble, triggering a transfer of control.

CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, acquired a near-total stake, effectively taking over operations and setting the stage for a full reset before the franchise even plays its first PSL match.

Instead of building Sialkot Stallionz into a new brand from scratch, the new ownership intent on reviving an identity that already has recognition in the market.

The Multan Sultans name became available after the previous franchise using that title was rebranded as Rawalpindi following an ownership change involving Walee Technologies, creating an opening for another franchise to pick up the Multan branding.

For supporters of the move, the case is straightforward: Multan already has an established PSL fan base, a clearer “home” narrative in South Punjab, and a ready-made cricketing footprint that is easier to market than a newly minted identity.

PSL CEO Salman Naseer has recently indicated that the league will make an official announcement soon regarding the franchise’s ownership and identity.
