Pakistan Pass Australia in ODI Rankings, Eye Third Spot

ICC ODI rankings

Pakistan have moved above Australia into fourth place in the ICC ODI rankings, with 103 rating points. The climb follows wins over Sri Lanka and England in the ODI tri-series in Rawalpindi, Geo Super and Nukta reported on October 21, 2026.

Pakistan are now just one point behind third-placed South Africa. Australia, on 102, drop to fifth.

The rise caps a steady climb over the past five months. Pakistan were fifth with 98 points after the ICC’s yearly rankings update in May, Aaj News reported at the time. By October 1, they were still fifth on 100, Wisden reported. Before the tri-series started, they had 102 points.

The 87-run win over England on Tuesday made the difference. Arafat Minhas scored 59 and took 6 wickets for 40 runs, while Hasan Nawaz top-scored with 79. Pakistan had beaten Sri Lanka by 37 runs two days earlier.

Pakistan could climb higher before the month ends. They still have two league matches in Lahore, against England on October 25 and Sri Lanka on October 27, and the final is on October 31. If Pakistan finish the tri-series unbeaten, they would pass South Africa into third place, Nukta reported.

The rankings matter beyond bragging rights. The top eight teams on March 31, 2027, plus hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, qualify directly for the 2027 ODI World Cup, according to the ICC’s qualification rules. At fourth, Pakistan are well inside that group.
