Pakistan has summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Indian High Commission over a tense naval encounter. Officials lodged a strong protest following an incident in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone. According to the Foreign Office, the episode occurred on September 15. It took place during the Pakistan Navy’s biennial exercise, SEASPARK-26.
The Foreign Office said an Indian vessel carried out aggressive manoeuvres near a Pakistani naval ship. These manoeuvres reportedly brought the two vessels into direct contact. Islamabad has since described the Indian Navy action as a clear violation of international law. Officials also say it breached the 1991 bilateral agreement on advance notice of military exercises.

That agreement covers manoeuvres and troop movements between the two countries. However, India has not yet issued a detailed public response to these specific claims. The Foreign Office urged India to follow both international law and existing bilateral agreements. It also warned that such incidents could further heighten regional tensions.
Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi will additionally lodge a formal demarche. This will be submitted directly to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs separately summoned Pakistan’s envoy in New Delhi. It issued its own demarche over the same incident.
Both sides now appear to be trading formal diplomatic protests over the encounter. Still, neither government has indicated any plan for direct talks on the matter. Finally, analysts say the episode adds fresh strain to an already fragile bilateral relationship. Instead of easing tensions, the incident risks deepening mistrust between the two navies.
