Pakistan’s northern elections delivered a decisive verdict. The second phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir voting produced clear AJK election results favoring PML-N decisively. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz won 13 of 18 declared constituencies. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party secured five seats trailing significantly. Results from two constituencies remained outstanding as counting continued throughout Sunday.
PML-N’s victories spanned multiple divisions strategically. The party won seats across Jammu, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley regions. Additionally, the consistent performance demonstrated broad-based support throughout the territory. However, PPP challenged selectively in specific constituencies. The party’s five wins reflected concentrated efforts in particular areas.
Notable contests shaped the outcome decisively. In LA-26 Neelum Valley-2, Mian Abdul Waheed won for PPP with 17,466 votes. He defeated PML-N’s Shah Ghulam Qadir who received 15,494 votes. Meanwhile, Diwan Ali Khan Qamar Chughtai won LA-33 Muzaffarabad-7 for PPP with 25,469 votes. PML-N’s Mian Muhammad Rashid trailed at 21,175 votes. In LA-40 Kashmir Valley-1, Aamir Abdul Ghaffar won with 2,914 votes for PPP.
PML-N’s seat holders included Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider in LA-32 Muzaffarabad-6. He defeated PPP’s Sahibzada Muhammad Ashfaq Zafar 21,156 to 19,010. Interestingly, Shah Ghulam Qadir recovered to win LA-25 Neelum Valley-1 for PML-N with 18,925 votes. He defeated PPP’s Abdul Waheed who received 13,596. The party also won LA-34 Jammu-1 and LA-39 Jammu-6 decisively.
Voting took place across nine constituencies in Muzaffarabad division. The region included five constituencies in Muzaffarabad district plus two each in Jhelum Valley and Neelum. Furthermore, all 12 refugee constituencies voted simultaneously. These included six reserved for Kashmir Valley refugees and six for Jammu refugees. A total of 207 candidates contested the nine division constituencies while 137 competed for refugee seats.
The Election Commission extended polling hours strategically. Voting continued until 6 PM instead of 5 PM across Muzaffarabad constituencies. This accommodation addressed massive turnout pressures effectively. Consequently, more citizens participated in the democratic process.
PPP challenged the AJK election results immediately. Party leaders alleged rigging affected the process throughout. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf rejected the mandate calling it fake. He claimed voting wasn’t free, fair, or impartial. However, PML-N leadership dismissed these allegations directly. Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah stated only three incidents occurred during polling. Therefore, the overall process proceeded smoothly despite opposition claims. Finally, AJK election results affirmed PML-N’s territorial dominance decisively.
